Mind over Matter: Stuff I cared about at the time

Blizzard of 2010

Yesterday morning we were greeted with a not unexpected dumping of snow. It began in earnest around sundown on Sunday, and snowed through the night. I went out to shovel this morning when it seemed to have stopped, but just as soon as I got started, the snow decided to make a second effort. It’s so hard to judge how much snow we received — some spots were blown bare by the wind, and some drifts were nearly two feet deep. The most surprising thing was when I moved my mom’s car, there were 6-8 inches of the white stuff underneath the entire car. No wonder it felt a little like it was floating when I backed it out of its spot. Usually the snow is just near the outside edge, but not with this storm. Anyway, I spend about 5 hours shoveling and, like the wind, blowing snow today. The wind was wicked at times, blowing the snow I was blowing back in my face. Ouch. One of the few times in my life I would have been happy to wear a balaclava.
