34 nights away from home:

  • 6 camping nights (5 sites)
  • 13 homes of friends and family (6 homes)
  • 15 hotel nights (15 different hotels; 14 continental breakfasts)
  • 25 different places

823.5 hours together as a family, almost always sharing one vehicle, one hotel room, one tent, etc. (minus 12 hours one night when Susan and I slept in a different family home than the kids, and minus a 3 hour anniversary lunch outing) = 808.5 hours.

55 hours of audio books (Harry Potter 6 & 7; a Roald Dahl collection; and InkHeart)

9 National Parks and Monuments

If you’re doing your math, you might notice that the nights didn’t quite add up – that’s because one night, the kids stayed at one house while we stayed at another!

  1. Thanks, I meant to include the state tally, but forgot. It’s actually 25: Massachusetts, New York, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Colorado, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee, Mississippi, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, (New York), Connecticut, (Massachusetts).

Which one did you miss, or were you not including Massachusetts?

  2. 25! That’s half, or more than half of the continental 48.
I missed New Jersey. thought you just skipped by it at Port Jervis.
